WIPO Summer School opened in Minsk

On June 1, 2026, the Summer School of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) began its work in the National Library of Belarus.
The organizers were WIPO, the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the National Center of Intellectual Property.
At the opening ceremony of the Summer School, welcoming speeches were delivered by Denis Korzhitsky, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus; Mohammed Abderraouf Bdioui, Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning and Coordination Division of the WIPO Academy (online); Uladzimir Rabavolau, Vice-President of the Eurasian Patent Office of the Eurasian Patent Organization; Vadim Gigin, Director General of the National Library of Belarus; Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property; Tatiana Semashko, Deputy Director for Patent Examination and DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability) Testing of Plant Varieties at the State Inspection for Testing and Protection of Plant Varieties of the Republic of Belarus; and Nikolai Sheshko, Head of the Science and Innovation Activities Department of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
The first day of the training focused on the presentation of the Summer School program, discussion of the main aspects of WIPO's activities, issues of legal integration in the field of intellectual property in the Eurasian space, etc.
The first day of the WIPO Summer School ended with a visit to the National Center of Intellectual Property.

The WIPO Summer School is being held from June 1 to 12, 2026 as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and WIPO, as well as in accordance with the Strategy of the Republic of Belarus in the field of intellectual Property (IP).
This project provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates, young professionals, IP experts and representatives of government authorities gain deeper knowledge on each of the aspects of IP, as well as explore the role and functions that WIPO assumes.
